The March 31st deadline for health insurance is rapidly approaching – and one-third of America’s uninsured couldn’t care less. They’re not going to buy health insurance due to high costs. That’s the seat of irony (via Fox News):
Two weeks out from the ObamaCare enrollment deadline, a new survey shows about one-third of uninsured American have no plans to buy insurance — despite the law’s requirement to do so.
And despite the administration’s aggressive campaign to spread the word about the health care law, the same survey shows a startling percentage of people still don’t know about the Affordable Care Act’s basic provisions.
The report from Bankrate.com was released Monday, in the final stretch of the government’s effort to sign people up for coverage. After March 31, some who do not have coverage could face a penalty under the law — though, in recent weeks, the administration has created wiggle room to let those who have trouble getting insurance avoid a fine.
The Bankrate.com report showed 34 percent of uninsured say they plan to stay uninsured. The most common reason cited was that they consider health insurance to be too expensive. Others are simply opposed to the health care law or think they are healthy enough to go without insurance.
But, what about young Americans? Isn’t their participation critical in making this unconstitutional federal power grab a success? Yes, they are – but they’re not signing up in great numbers.
Yes, according to current numbers, Obamacare sign-ups by Millennials (you fools!) are growing. I’m sure liberals will put a spin on these numbers, but remember that the goal for the March 31st deadline was to have 7 million Americans dependent on government-run health care. Right now, only 4.24 million Americans have decided to buy into this miserable social entitlement program.
Overall, Millennial participation has been less than stellar, possibly because they think Obamacare will be repealed (via National Journal):
The young Americans the Obama administration so desperately needs to help make the Affordable Care Act function are the ones most likely to believe the law is endangered, suggesting that sustained House Republican efforts to repeal and undermine the law are bearing some fruit.
More than half of 18-to-29-year-olds who were surveyed in the most recent United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll say it is likely the law will be repealed in 2014, even though the chances of that actually occurring are remote.
According to the poll, 18 percent of respondents in this age group said it was “very likely” Obamacare would be repealed by Congress next year, while 33 percent said it was “somewhat likely” the law would be done away with.
That being said, it’s unlikely the administration will reach its enrollment benchmark by March 31st. Just another failure for the Obama White House.
